The love story that kick-started Swiss tourism

Content Summary

Did you know that a fictional love story gave tourism in Switzerland its first big boost? It’s hard to believe now, but in the 1700s Switzerland was more of a stopover than a destination on the Grand Tour. That all changed in 1761 with the publication of Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s “Julie, or the new Heloise” which was a literary phenomenon throughout Europe. This video explains why the book was so popular and how it helped changed tourism in Switzerland – forever.

Production Notes

This was a passion project done entirely on my own from the research to reading the 600-page book at the heart of the story to scripting to the image searches and animation in Adobe After Effects. I was fascinated by this topic when I read about it, and wanted to create a more Vox or Johnny Harris-style animated explainer to showcase what I had learned.
